Charles L. Carnes
Charles L. Carnes, 77, of Hoffman Lake, Warsaw, Ind., died at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
On Aug. 18, 1935, he was born in Warren, Ind., to Fred and Martha (Mossburg) Carnes. He married Sandra L. Keiper in January 1959 at Koontz Lake, Ind.
Charles “Chuck” Carnes served in the U.S. Marine Corp. as a Navy pilot from 1952-1958. He was stationed in Japan.
Charles moved to the Warsaw area 41 years ago. He was a flight instructor for the Nappanee Airport for many years. He enjoyed flying, playing chess, bluegrass music, gardening and was an avid gun collector. Charles kept every promise he ever made. He also was a member of various associations including, Northern Indiana Bluegrass Association, Barbershop Chorus, National Rifle Association, American Legion Post #49, Warsaw, Warsaw Community Schools Chess Program, Warsaw Public Library Chess Program and Warsaw Adult Learning Center English as a Second Language Program.
He is survived by his wife: Sandra Carnes, one daughter: Linda Carnes Rummer and her companion Randy Platz; two sons: Steven (Lillian) Carnes; and David (Leslie) Carnes; one brother: Jim (Sharon) Carnes; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Laura Byrd; and his sister: Phyllis Miller.
Visitation hours will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with military honors by the American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126, Warsaw at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. There are no funeral services planned and burial will be at a later date.
