Irene M. Sondej
Irene M. Sondej, 89, of Warsaw, Ind., and formerly of Chicago, Ill.; passed away at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, in Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.
She was born May 1, 1923, in Chicago to Joseph and Caroline Glab. In 1941 she graduated from Kelley High School, Chicago. She moved to Warsaw 10 years ago.
She first married Chester Brost and her second marriage was to Henry Sondej.
Irene was a secretary for Conrad Hilton for about 5 years. She also worked for Foothill Brothers and National Can, all in Chicago. Locally she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw.
She loved going to the movies and her favorite movie was The Godfather. She enjoyed meeting with friends and was very active in her church, especially in Chicago.
Irene is survived by a son: Chester C. “Casey” Brost, Warsaw; a daughter: Maria A. “Toni” Martinez, Sunnyvale, Calif.; a stepson: Thomas Sondej, Burlington, Wisc.; seven grandchildren: Chet Brost, Tony Brost, Kimberly Brost, Andrew Brost, Chadwick Brost, Christina Ryan and Jacqualine Monteon; and 10 great-grandchildren: Caton, Izzy, Jonas, Jacob, Joey, Katelyn, Breckan, Anthony, Camaron and Dominic.
She was preceded in death by her first husband: Chester Brost; her second husband: Henry Sondej; three brothers: Stanley Glab, Ted Glab and Steve Glab; and a sister: Angie Schantz.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 15, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. A service will be held at noon Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, with Father Phil DeVolder officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool, Ind.
