Teens will experience a little taste of France with some “wine” (non-alcoholic) and cheese tasting during Teen Time at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21. They will sample different kinds of cheeses paired with sparkling grape juice, learn some wine and cheese trivia, and discover what kinds of wine and cheese go together. It will be a little culture, a little food, and a whole lot of fun.
Teen Time is held the third Thursday afternoon of each month. It’s a time of fun and learning geared to their interests. It’s something different each month, but one thing stays the same – the fun! All teens are invited and encouraged to bring their friends.
Not to be outdone, the tots will be learning about food during beginINbooks at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 18. This free monthly program is for families with children ages 18-months and older and helps young children develop early literacy skills and readiness for kindergarten.
According to the National Institute for Literacy, the ages birth through five are a critical time for a child’s development and learning, and children who develop literacy skills during the pre-school years are likely to perform better in school. BeginINbooks is one way parents can help give their young children a head start to succeed in school.
Held the third Monday at 5:30 p.m. September through May, each session focuses on a different topic. To get your child involved, just sign up at the Youth Service Desk.
In addition to beginINbooks, Preschool Story Time is held every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. until April 10. It’s a fun time of stories, finger plays, story boards, crafts, and socializing with other children.
The eBay for Beginners Class originally scheduled for March 9 has been re-scheduled for 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16. In this class, you’ll learn how to buy and sell on eBay. The class is free with no advance registration required.
Also re-scheduled is Pirkko Miller’s presentation of her childhood experiences growing up in Finland during war time. Due to last week’s winter storm, her presentation to the Glean Team has been postponed until 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3.
In another weather-related matter, the writers group will stretch their imaginations as they write about being a weather man for a day in Writer’s Corner at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18.
Then R.E.A.D. Book Club will be discussing To Dance with the White Dog by Terry Kay at 5:30 p.m. that day. The Adult Services Department offers six monthly programs that range from playing cards to making cards to tasting new recipes in addition to special classes and events all year long. Stop by the NWPL information table and get involved.
