Helen Louise Meyer
Helen Louise Meyer, 93, of rural Wabash, Ind., passed away at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Ind.
She was born January 23, 1920 in Huntington County, Ind., to Conrad and Glennie (Elsea) Bechtold. Her mother, Glennie, died when Helen was 4 weeks old, and her father had nine other children in his care. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Thomas E. and Ora (Garber) Bechtold. She married Raymond C. Meyer in Wabash County, Ind., on May 11, 1941; he died April 7, 2002.
Helen was a 1937 graduate of Chester High School. Helen retired in 1980, from the billing department at Genreral Tire in Wabash. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Wabash County, a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as a member of the VFW Auxiliary, both of Wabash.
She is survived by three children: Kay L. Meyer, Wabash; Ray Allen Meyer, Warsaw, Ind.; and Roger L. Meyer of Wabash; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; as well as Rozella Bechtold and Madalyn Bechtold, North Manchester.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter: Rebecca Sue Smith, who died in 2005; her granddaughter: Michele Wilhelm, who died in 2012; four brothers; and six sisters.
Visitation will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 11 a.m. 1241 Manchester Ave. Wabash, Saturday, March 2, 2013, with Pastor Randell Webb officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, Ind.
