Winter Weather Advisory Issued
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Kosciusko County for this evening through noon Friday.
The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana issued the advisory for 8 p.m. tonight through noon Friday calling for snow and freezing drizzle. A band of snow is expected to move from southwest to northeast across the area overnight and will change to freezing drizzle by early morning.
Total snow accumulations of 2 inches to 4 inches are expected with the heaviest amounts over northwest Indiana and southwest lower Michigan.
Expect snow covered and slick roads while traveling tonight and into tomorrow.
INDOT will continue to monitor multiple developing forecasts, as well as a statewide network of road and bridge pavement sensors, to deploy the needed personnel, equipment and materials ahead of any predicted winter weather. Anticipated rains will dilute pre-treatment – making continuous salt applications by INDOT trucks the most reliable strategy to combat ice accumulations. INDOT trucks will be in place as the weather front approaches, and will continue to apply salt as freezing rain falls.
Motorists are urged to drive with extreme care. INDOT advises commuters to leave early tomorrow morning, allowing sufficient time to reach their destination safely. If possible, motorists should postpone their trip until after the morning rush hour as weather conditions are expected to moderate significantly later in the day.
Drivers can monitor road conditions and traffic alerts across the state at any time by phone, Web or social media. Visit TrafficWise or dial toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623) for INDOT’s TrafficWise Traveler Information Service.
