Tigers Get Good News On Stookey
WARSAW – The Warsaw boys basketball program, after back-to-back tough losses, got some much-needed good news earlier today.
Junior Jordan Stookey did not suffer a broken wrist Thursday night during a 57-56 loss at Class 3-A No. 9 Plymouth.
Warsaw coach Doug Ogle confirmed early this afternoon that Stookey does not have a break in his right wrist after having it examined following the game.
Stookey, the third-leading scorer for the Tigers at 9.6 points-per-game, was injured with 3:01 to play versus Plymouth. He took a hard fall to the court after being called for an offensive foul on a drive to the basket. He went to the Warsaw lockeroom and later returned to the bench with his right wrist heavily wrapped.
Ogle said that Stookey, a 6-1 guard, may be able to return to practice as soon as Monday depending on how sore his shooting wrist is.
The Tigers, who have lost four of their last five games including a pair of one-point decisions to Elkhart Memorial and Plymouth, are 9-8 overall and finished 3-4 in NLC play after losing to the Pilgrims (15-3) Thursday night.
Warsaw hosts South Bend Clay Tuesday night before playing at Fort Wayne Luers Feb. 15 and then entertaining Fort Wayne Carroll in the regular-season finale Feb. 22.
Sectional play begins the week of Feb. 25 with the Tigers playing in the Class 4-A Elkhart Sectional hosted by Central at North Side Gym. The state tournament draw for the boys is set for Feb. 17.
