Tobacco Store Robbery Arrests Made In Elkhart
Two people have been arrested in connection with at least one of five robberies in Elkhart County that have occurred over a one week period.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Nicholas B. Chaplin, 24, and Abigail L. Pifer, 19, of Elkhart, were arrested for their alleged involvement in a Jan. 25 robbery at Low Bob’s, 51523 SR 19, Elkhart.
Since the arrests, however, police say two more robberies, including one on Feb. 2 and another on Feb. 3, have occurred. Suspects committing the robberies are described as two white males. They enter the stores with their faces covered with bandanas or hoods and make off with money, cartons of cigarettes and other items. The suspects leave the stores in either a black passenger car or a gold sport utility vehicle. There is also a third suspect waiting outside.
Since Jan. 25, Low Bob’s at 51523 SR 19, Elkhart, has been robbed twice, the second time was on Feb. 3. Also on Jan. 25, the Elkhart Cigarette Outlet at 51505 SR 19, Elkhart, was also robbed. Other robberies happened on Jan. 29 at a Marathon gas station at 51451 SR 19, Elkhart, and on Feb. 2 at Stogies, 30913 Old U.S. 20, Osceola.
The ECSD continues to investigate the robberies and are working with other law enforcement agencies to determine similarities and connections to other recent robberies.
