UPDATE: Armed Robberies Continue In Elkhart
Another robbery in Elkhart this evening now brings the number of incidents there in a little over a week to five.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. this evening, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a robbery of a cigarette store located on SR 19 north of Elkhart. An employee of Low Bob’s was reportedly robbed by two white males who had entered the store and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and cartons of cigarettes.
The suspects left the store in a black or dark colored late model Chrysler, which was driven by a third white male suspect.
The suspects in this robbery are described as white males who were wearing black hoodies and both had bandanas covering their faces.
At 7:01 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, deputies responded to an armed robbery of a cigarette store located on Old U.S. 20 west of Elkhart. An employee of Stogie’s Discount Tobacco, 30913 Old U.S. 20, was robbed by two white males who entered into the store while armed with a shotgun.
After ordering the employee to the ground, suspects obtained an unknown amount of cash, several cartons of cigarettes, and the cashier’s purse before leaving the store headed westbound on Old U.S. 20 in an unknown vehicle.
The suspects in that robbery are described as two white males. One suspect, who was armed with the weapon, was wearing a tan jacket, gloves and had a bandana covering his face. The second suspect was wearing a black winter jacket, a black ball cap, and had a black bandana covering his face.
Sheriff’s Deputies are continuing to investigate this robbery and are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible.
On Friday, Jan. 25, two other robberies in the Simonton Lake area were reported. The first was at 2:15 p.m. at Elkhart Cigarette Outlet, 51505 SR 19. In that incident, two white males entered into the store and demanded money from the cashier. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, several cartons of cigarettes and other items from the store, the suspects placed the items into a black trash bag and ordered the cashier to the floor.
Though no weapon was displayed, the suspects may have been armed with a taser.
In the second robbery on Jan. 25, two white males entered Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco, 51523 SR 19, at approximately 6:50 p.m. In that incident, the men brandished a hatchet type of a weapon.
The third robbery occurred at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. According to police, the Marathon gas station at 51451 SR 19 was robbed by two male suspects wearing black masks and gloves. The suspects entered into the store while armed with handguns and demanded money from the store clerk. They got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register as well as cigarettes.
