Warriors Zip Past Lakers
LAGRANGE — After taking one on the chin 24 hours ago, Wawasee’s boys basketball team rebounded in a big way.
A 29-point outburst in the first quarter propelled the Warriors past the Lakeland Lakers, 63-55, Saturday night.
After scoring just three points in the first quarter of a 39-point loss at Concord Friday night, Wawasee used 10 points in the first quarter from Gage Reinhard to build a big lead. Reinhard finished his night with 15 points, one of three Warriors in double figures.
Alex Clark led the Warriors with 19 points and Chase Myers pitched in 11 points.
Lakeland, which did cut the Wawasee lead down to single digits heading into the fourth quarter, were paced by the 22 points from Brant Betts and 15 points from Spencer Mortola.
Wawasee finished off the job by going 11-14 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter, and were 22-32 overall from the free throw line.
Wawasee (4-10) will jump into its final two Northern Lakes Conference games as its next two appointments. The Warriors will host Northridge next Saturday night and then head to Goshen for a Feb. 9 date with the Redskins. Lakeland (4-11) will get back into Northeast Corner Conference play with a Tuesday night meeting at Churubusco.
