Make Way For Snow Plows
Winter weather is here in Indiana today and the Indiana Department of Transportation is urging motorists to drive safely and make room for plow trucks that are clearing snow and ice from state highways.
Northern Indiana has experienced temperatures well below freezing over the past few days that reduce the effectiveness of road salt in melting snow and ice. Drivers are reminded to accelerate gradually, drive slowly, brake early and allow greater distance behind the car ahead. INDOT crews will continue to plow and treat state routes, interstates and U.S. highways around the clock until all routes are clear.
It was 35 years today when the biggest blizzard in state history dumped up to 40 inches of snow across the Hoosier state. Although today’s snowfall won’t even come close to that, steady snow is expected to taper off and end by early this afternoon. When said and done, Kosciusko County could see up to 2 inches of accumulations. Temperatures will remain steady in the 20s.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and check road conditions at TrafficWise or by dialing toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623).
