Davidson, Parrett In Mix At NLC
DUNLAP — A pair of Warsaw swimmers are in the middle of the action as the preliminaries of the Northern Lakes Conference boys swim meet have been determined after day one of swimming at Concord.
Spencer Davidson is the top seed in both the butterfly (54.61) and the breaststroke (1:01.46) heading into the finals of the NLC championships, which begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. Davidson’s Warsaw teammate, Jayden Parrett, is the frontrunner in the backstroke (54.17) and is the No. 2 seed in the 50 (22.58), only behind Northridge’s Austin Flager (21.34), who is the top seed not only in the NLC, but has one of the top five 50 swims in the state this year.
Davidson’s time in the fly will need to hold up as Northridge’s Jon Stoller was right there with Davidson at 54.68. Wawasee’s Zac Hershberger swam the top time in the 100 at 50.99 but has company with Concord’s Trent Chamness and Northridge’s Conner Sandt within a second.
The Raiders, which come into the meet having won the last 14 NLC tournament titles, set themselves up nicely to defend their crown. Northridge owns the top seed time in all three relays, Flager’s 50, the top two times in the individual medley in Jon Stoller (1:57.19) and AJ Bernth (1:58.98), three of the top four times in the 500 led by Seth Cripe’s 4:55.00, and Cripe owns the middle lane in the 200 after a 1:49.79.
Diving will begin Saturday’s championships, kicking off at 9 a.m. with preliminary sets. The top 16 divers will make the finals, which will pick up during the middle of the swim finals Saturday afternoon.
