Indiana Farm At Center Of Salmonella Outbreak Responds To Federal Claims
A southern Indiana melon farm, under investigation as a possible source of a widespread salmonella outbreak, has responded to federal claims against it.
The Princeton Daily Clarion reports a lawyer for Owensville-based Chamberlain Farms says “overwhelming evidence” indicates the farm’s packing operations are not to blame for the outbreak.
Attorney Gary Zhao says the farm will not be growing cantaloupes this year and has gotten rid of all related equipment.
He is pointing to land near the company’s fields as a possible source of the outbreak.
Zhao says the farm will continue to work with the FDA to find the root of the issue “… so that lessons can be learned for the benefit of others who are later engaged in cantaloupe production.”
The FDA has provided a timeline of the investigation, which can be found by clicking here.
