Milford TIF District Resolution Adopted
The Milford Redevelopment Commission met recently for a public hearing to discuss a northern tax increment finance district in Milford. With no opposition at the meeting, and only two people in attendance to speak in support, the resolution was adopted.
George Robertson, president of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, told the Redevelopment Commission that an additional TIF district is one of the most positive things they could do for the area.
“In this economy,” he said, “nothing is more important that creating jobs.”
Robertson explained that companies today are cautious toward development, and when they’ve finally committed, they want the land to be shovel-ready so they can make plans right away. The TIF districts in town will help to create shovel-ready property.
“If we don’t have these sites, we’re simply not in the game,” Robertson said.
Milford Town Attorney Richard Helm of Rockhill Pinnick explained to the redevelopment commission that while the TIF district is officially in place now, there many be further steps to take which will encourage buyers for the area, however, the exact details will be unknown until a buyer is found.
The Northern TIF district is located north of CR 1300 North and east of Old SR 15 The land encompassing is around 200 acres. The TIF district will be in place for the next 25 years.
The next meeting for the Milford Redevelopment Commission is scheduled for Jan. 10, at 10 a.m.
