LCA Loses On Buzzer Beater
WINONA LAKE – The Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team lost a heartbreaker at home Saturday night.
Hamilton’s Brett Converset tossed in a 3-pointer from the right wing at the final horn in overtime to lift his team to a thrilling 63-61 win over the Cougars. Converset’s game winner came after a scramble for a loose ball.
LCA led 56-52 with 1:45 left in regulation play, but missed a couple of critical front end chances of 1-and-1 opportunities from the free throw line. Hamilton then rallied to tie the game at 56-56 to force overtime.
Hamilton, now 2-2 on the season, led 29-24 at halftime and then used a 15-3 run to build a 44-27 advantage. The Cougars rallied with a run of their own to cut the deficit to 44-35 at the end of the third period. LCA then went on a 21-8 run in the fourth stanza to take its four-point lead late in the contest.
Senior Zarek Finley led LCA with 23 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Senior Collin Price had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assist for the Cougars.
Chris Silveus and Calvin Prinsen each scored seven points for LCA. Logan Mount had four and Chris Maron and Noah Cole each added two.
Converset scored 22 points and Aaron Kelly had 11 for Hamilton.
LCA, which drops to 1-2 with its second straight loss, plays at Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday night.
