Veterans Day Ceremonies
As America today celebrates Veterans Day, the American Legion Post 49 is having a special program this morning at Center Lake Pavilion.
This morning’s program starts at 10:30 a.m. and is open to the public.
North Webster American Legion Post 253 is also holding Veterans Day ceremonies this morning. At 10 a.m. they will be in Oswego Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Post 253, and at 11 a.m. the final ceremony will be held at North Webster Cemetery.
On Monday, a public unveiling of two road signs honoring congressional Medal of Honor recipient and Milford resident Harry J. Michael will be part of a Veterans Day program at Milford School.
Members of the community are invited to attend the 9 a.m. ceremony that plans to honor current and former members of the U.S. military. As part of the morning’s schedule, Second Lt. Michael, a veteran of WWII, will receive special attention from State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki.
Michael was killed in action on March 13, 1945, while serving in Germany. His death occurred as he led the 80th Blue Ridge Infantry Division platoon in an assault that resulted in the capture of more than 70 Germans and the liberation of two American prisoners.
The program will take place in the Milford School gymnasium at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12.
Veterans Day is traditionally observed on the 11th day of the 11th month, but local and state government offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of the holiday. That means no mail will be delivered, banks will be closed, and any trash pickup routes scheduled through cities or towns will be changed to Tuesday.
