Milford Annexation Moves Forward
After reviewing the results of evaluations performed on 220 acres being considered for annexation, the Milford Redevelopment Commission recommended Monday that the process move forward.
The property, located northeast of the current town limits, will likely be developed into an industrial park.
With that potential in mind, members of the redevelopment commission asked owner BRTB to have a wetlands determination, archeological study and Phase I Environmental Site Assessment done on the land. Those studies have been completed and show no impediment to future industrial development.
The phase one assessment came back negative for any recognizable environmental contamination. The property does not meet any of the requirements of a wetland either, although it was noted that the ditches that run along the road empty into Turkey Creek and might need to be considered separately by a developer.
A literature review determined that there is a moderate possibility of cultural resources being located somewhere on the land. However, unless federal permits or federal funding are involved in the development of the site, then a more detailed evaluation isn’t necessary. If it became necessary, then the property owner would be responsible for having it done.
“BRTB has done what we asked them to do,” commission President Dan Brown summarized, before calling a vote. Members unanimously decided to recommend that the town council proceed to finalize the annexation.
The commission also briefly discussed its balance of funds. After meeting obligations that included improvements to the east side lift station and some new wells, the commission’s approximately $294,000 balance decreased only slightly, to $292,000, due to a scheduled deposit of tax increment financing funds.
