Pierceton Days Packed with Fun
The 2012 Pierceton Days festival is set to kick off at noon Friday, Aug. 3, and continue through Saturday evening.
Vendors and a carnival, provided by Beer’s and Jessup’s, will be operational by noon Aug. 3. Food, crafts and rides can be enjoyed all day between the other entertainment. Both will open again Saturday at 9 a.m.
Pierceton American Legion all-you-can-eat-fish dinner will begin at 3 p.m. and continue until sold out.
For those preferring chicken and pork to fish, Pierceton Lions Club is providing a chicken BBQ and pork chop dinner at 4 p.m. The food will be for carry-out only.
From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 3, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 4, Pierceton History Theatre will be displaying old photographs of Pierceton and its residents in the Pierceton Library basement. Festival-goers are invited to help identify the photographs.
Musicians, dancers and pageant entrants will provide the night’s entertainment. Incognito Cloggers are set to perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Senior Center. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Gunslinger will perform in the park with a brief intermission for the Miss Pierceton and Pretty Baby winners to be announced at 9 p.m.
Car show registration will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the winners being announced at 8:45 p.m. There is a $12 fee per car.
Festivities will kick off earlier Saturday, starting with a pancake and sausage breakfast at the Pierceton Fire Department. Free will donations will be accepted at the breakfast.
The annual Pierceton Library Friends book sale will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the library — in the event of rain, the sale will be moved to the library basement.
A skateboard competition will begin at noon at the skate park.
The parade, themed “A Day at the Circus,” will step off at 4 p.m., with entrants lining up at 3 p.m. in front of the school. Parade awards will be announced in the park following the parade. Belva Stephens will serve as grand marshal.
From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., there will be free carriage rides around the town. For those wanting an aerial view of the town, there will be tethered hot air balloon rides at the ball park. Donations are accepted and all proceeds will benefit Riley Children’s Hospital.
Sum of Three will help Pierceton Days go out with a bang with a free concert in the park from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
